Humanity Surviving Amidst Raging Warfare across Niger Delta

The Niger Delta is the hotbed of pounding violence resulting from politics and economic exploitation across the decades. To be precise, the delta is formed by the Niger River at the Gulf of Guinea on the Atlantic Ocean. It is one of the most densely populated regions on earth and in the past, the region was reputed all over the globe because of its flourishing palm oil trade. The region has a high deposit of natural oil and gas and as such, has been at the center of international controversy over issues like widespread pollutions, human right violation and of course, a raging civil war.

The ongoing war has claimed hundreds and thousands of life. More severely, it has affected life of millions of folks as collateral damage, compelling them to be homeless. However, in the midst of this rampant warfare, art and culture has never taken the backseat across the region. The fraternity of Niger Delta writers is steadily gaining prominence across the world literary circle. The reader base as well as the fan base of these literary geniuses is expanding at a steady pace.

Thanks to the long history of colonialism in Africa, most of these authors and poets – if not all – write in languages that are unquestionably popular all over the planet. Now, what makes these creative minds so adorable to a vast reader base all on a sudden?  It is relevant mentioning  here, these literary talents are keen sociopolitical observers apart from beings poets, authors, novelists and writers.

These talented geniuses effortlessly scribble the true scenario existing in the region through words inside the realm of their creative minds. Their unbiased accounts have been most helpful for the world to come to know about the terrible situation hanging around the region. It is interesting to note here, apart from bloodshed, death and other horrible facts of life, Niger Delta poetry deals with delicate things like love, affection, expectations and dreams. Thanks to the dedicated works of these sensitive minds, it is not impossible for humanity to rehabilitate in this region in near future.
